On the evening of 9th Feb. the so called cultural event in JNU Campus set an Earthquake of Highest magnitude and divided the society into two. The JNU student leaders like Umar Khalid and Kanhaiya Kumar’s attempt to justify the series of slogans that echoed on campus by steering a Debate of ‘Freedom of Expression’ is just shameful to watch. Inclined Intellectuals (?) Baboons’ coming out to support the Debate is a disgrace. The events that unfolded afterwards saw arrest of JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar and the charges of sedition filed against him and five others fuelled the debate even further! There is a fault-line between the concept of ‘Freedom of Expression’ and ‘Sedition’ that these so called intellectuals are trying to mask it up for playing the victim card in front of society. The ‘Freedom of Expression’ which is a right of all citizens as per ‘Constitution of India’ [Art. 19 (i) a] awards us freedom to express our feelings through means of speech, writing or suggestion. Feelings can be of please or displease. In this case as advocated by these Intellectuals as Displease with the way Government in centre works. Well the simple concept these baboons fail to understand is ‘India’ being something bigger, wider and stronger than ‘Government of India’. See ‘India’ being a ‘State’ and ‘Government’ being its organ, the Freedom of speech dictates total freedom to raise voice against the unjust policies, actions and yes even the Laws undertaken by government. But seeing the fine line between your Intention to raise voice against injustice and leading a rebellion against the State established by law (Constitution of India) on a defined geographical territory are two different things. Sec. 124 A of IPC deals with the offence of sedition which is clearly listed under the title of ‘Offences Against The State’ dictates ’Whoever by words (Spoken or Written) or signs or visible representations or otherwise, brings (or attempts to bring) into hatred or contempt, or excites (or attempts to excites disaffection, which includes disloyalty and all feelings of enmity) towards the Government established by law in India (meaning State), is Sedition’. Here lies the fine line between the ‘Freedom of Expression’ and ‘Sedition’ that these inclined students are either unaware of (By their actions they seem they aren’t!) or they are hiding this in face of their acts and steering up controversy to save their sorry bums from prosecution! It is for us to stand up and see through the smoke screen they have created, and the efforts they put in to get the charge of sedition off their back! Isn’t shouting out slogans demanding secession of Kashmir an Integral part of Indian ‘State’ direct threat to the Sovereign State of India? Isn’t pledging for Destruction of ‘State of India’ and vowing to continue the fight till it’s achieved an act of war against ‘State of India’? And if the accused students are so sure of their innocence why don’t they surrender to the court of Law and Face the charges? Their refusal to even stand up and face a Fair trial is suspicious!! The act of bringing absolute shame to ‘The Constitution of India’ by hiding behind the constitution itself (Freedom of Expression) is just a public insult of Constitution itself! However ‘Fine’ it may be but the ‘Fault-line between Freedom of Expression and Sedition’ is to be obeyed by all Citizens of India alike! So with right bestowed to me by Constitution of India All I ask from these so called ‘liberal’ Students is to answer me my questions as a fellow Citizen of India!! The reality is the accused students of JNU campus failed to understand the difference between ‘State’ and ‘Government’ and crossed the fine line separating ‘Freedom of Expression’ and committed a act of ‘Sedition’ by choice!! They should stand their ground face the trial and let the law (Which rules supreme) take its course! As I always do again I'm not going to narrate the whole #50thMahaABVPConf session by session. My twitter feed @EshaanGanpule and the official twitter handle of ABVP Maharashtra @MahaABVP will provide good glance at that! Woah! The Golden Jubilee conference of ABVP Maharashtra was held between 24,25 & 26 December at 'Mahatma Phule Nagar, Mhada Ground, Vandre, Mumbai' it's been weeks and yes I've experienced a great program like #ShivshaktiSangam after that and yet I find myself daydreaming about waking up in my room, Getting ready, Arriving at the venue walking up front sitting on our "Social Media Table" or going to our "Social Media War Room", Meeting great people like Varda Marathe, Pallavi Deshpande, Devashree Khare, Amit Tambulkar, Zankrut Sir, Raghav Risaldar,Nikhil Karampuri and get Tweeting!! All three days I was honored with the responsibility of Live Tweeting about the things underway on the Dias and Off The Dias. I've never picked up a pen or a paper the whole duration as I always do to make notes. I was just clicking Pictures, swooshing tweets and retweeting loads! But the whole thing a essence that came through shocked me! I've known ABVP as a non-political student organisation of the students, for the students and by the students. The first program I attended was a lecture on Chatrapati Shivaji and how youth should look up to him. The one I truly took part In was a state level workshop of TSVP which I helped organising I was their making arrangements, Gathering funds, taking care of the last detail of 'Niwas vyavastha', Dealing with caterer for what menu we wanted to serve and amidst all that getting familiar with student activism which was so pure at heart thinking about nation and trying to achieve its betterment via educational activism (I'm not going to claim I understood whole of ABVP then and their, Nor I Do now but You get the jist!!) The 3K+ activist gathered their showed me real components that unite to give ABVP such a Vast and wide scope. Apart from me each and every one their had their own version of ABVP in their mind, They were introduced to the Ideology of the organisation or the body of work through different mediums than me. As I've described I was Introduced to ABVP through a program but some of them were their after experiencing ABVP through participating in a agitation or Some after they participated in program or even attended one and were drawn to the Student activism like I did. Each and every one their had a different background and a different introduction of ABVP as well as he had his version of positive, Constructive and progressive student activism in mind. But all of us had one common thing in our mind, that's a thread of patriotism, A bond of Brotherhood, A will to serve Mother Nation to reach the top. Not just a vision but a Action in form of movement for nation, that spark unites us! I've read, though about and I've experienced ABVP as a activism for three years now but the absolute unification or as Shri.Sunil Ambekar said at the #61stABVPConf a progressive unfoldment of Spirit of Nation against my eyes was one to witness! That day I rediscovered ABVP once again as I saw the whole 'Saidhaantik Bhumika and Karya Paddhati' of ABVP unfold through small incidents! It was a Epiphany to me and I'm Glad I Witnessed It! I'm not going to narrate the whole #61stABVPConf but I'm going to focus on more on intellectual side of it! The star of the Conference was the speech session of National Organising secretary Shri. Sunilji Ambekar. The one in which he talked abut various aspects of #ABVP Within those he talked about the early days of #ABVP he said,"We used to think what will be the impact of #ABVP ? Will it be a student's body established for bound goals or are we here to impact future? Will we be bound to a person or a Thought? are we limited to spontaneous issues or are we able to function and deliver a long lasting Impact?". He further added,'We proved ourselves with working on philosophical and Ideological base composing a student's movement for nation" the essence of principles on which ABVP functions and the thought on which it's whole mechanism is based shows its roots in questions above! It's amazing to see The thoughts I adore and I Proudly try to incorporate in my personal life take shape from simple Ideas! Truly the Ideas that changed the face of student activism and still continue to do so after long 66 years! The well known structure of #ABVP that I'm familiar with embracing thought of anonymity, The idea of Greater Good, The thought of being Ideology centered instead of depending on a person, Leaving no room for Egos,Politics or Dirty game of Power; Constructing a large body of organisation consisting of students shows its roots deep in the answers of questions above. He further illustrated the Idea of 'Greater Good' Meaning the betterment that we propose being not Just Economic but Cultural too. As Culture Forms the Pride for Nation and To cement Spirit of nation Pride for nation is Vital. Painting the absolute dedication of ABVP to nation he stated, "In Case of Conflict of interest between our self and nation, nations Interest will prevail" To sum up the whole experience I'm again tempted to quote him,"Nationalism is a Great virtue which teaches us to connect. We are inclusive, We teach acceptance. It's a progressive unfoldment of national spirit." The thought that was a small bit in the whole Chain of Thoughts that inspired not just me but millions to join, Work and Keep working with ABVP is like a Torch and I Know that will burn till the great nation of Ours reclaims it's position top of the world! The Inaugural session kicked off the Conference when the member of NITI Aayog, The Thinker, The Economist and The man of the hour Dr.Bibek Debroy spoke about patriotism and it's Importance. The Idea he put forth was simple,"Each country in the World racing for growth, Development, Education and Economic Stability a Bond between a Individual and It's nation is vital. To be part of our nations growth and development each of us must be Proud of our nation this Torch of Patriotism forms a bond. Bond of responsibility, Towards Nation, Towards Each other. 60 years ago in 1947 we achieved our Freedom, The Movement for freedom was Operated by people Proud of Our Nation, It's Freedom, After that the Pride slowly declined But Now You have to reignite the flame of pride as you students have a huge responsibility to achieve Mission 2020" The Speaker of the Evening, Popstar Writer of "Shiva" Trilogy Shri.Amish Tripathi took the podium and with his words he Drew a Superb caricature of Bhagwan Ram for us underlining the importance of the Family in a man's success. He said,"The family has been very Important factor throughout the journey of my of my life. They've supported me in each endeavor I've Undertaken and they still do! without them me a established banker, couldn't have chosen the path of Literature that I love they supported me to follow my Inspiration Shiva!". When asked about his next book "Scion Of Ishwaku" he added,"The life of Bhagwan Ram is a pinnacle of Perfection. He has Inspired generations upon Generations to follow him. It's not about the adventures of him but the values his life teaches us are Practical, Time Tested and still applicable and relatable today. Students should learn from him." The small Interactive session set the tone for what came next but as I've stated before I'm not going to narrate a event like a reporter! The Speakers from Inaugural Sessions came from different life paths their expertise vary but the essence of what they presented was clear. The Deep rooted Love and Pride of Nation, The Brethren Bond between its inhabitants and respect and Belief in our Culture and our Indian Values and Morals is necessary for our nation to keep up with this age of Globalization. The Inspiration, Motivation of these two was overwhelming. Sure they made me feel more proud of Being a Indian and Reinstated my choice of being a Student activist of @ABVPVoice I felt good that time knowing that the principals @ABVPVoice teaches me and the Ideology that I work upon, with and for is far more bigger and as I Liked to summarize "All Inclusive, yet Conclusive" one for greater good with the moral means of Knowledge,To the end of Character and Unity. Stay Tuned for Next Vol. on Speech Session of National Organisational Secretary Shri.Sunilji Ambekar! Check out the Slideshow for Pictures! Later in last month I attended #61stABVPConf, I’ve tweeted about it, Posted about it on Facebook but I seriously needed to write about it in detail as the experience and It's impact was so deep and powerful that it would be a crime to keep mum!! The first ever conference I’ve ever attended was 48th state conference of Maharashtra, Last year I attended my first National Conference held at Amritsar,Punjab. It was fabulous there were 3,000+ of us, The crowd, Huge Stage & Stellar Public Address held at the heart of Amritsar after a massive Rally, I mean it was ‘The whole Nine yards’! But right from the start this one felt Different! Something was pleasantly different with this one. The Venue, ‘Dr. Kalam Nagar,SOA University ,Bhubaneshwar, Odisha’. The actual auditorium, The way it was glistening, The way it was all abuzz with enthusiasm, The moment I stepped in it the massive stage, Staggering Symbolism igniting the flame of nationalism, The clever arrangement of Backdrop everything was breathtaking. At the flag hoisting ceremony, massive choir of Students singing ‘Vande Matram’ launched a wave of Patriotism which enchanted whole crowd. The formal Inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of a great carnival of thought which let me a glimpse of mega mechanism that #ABVP is! I’ve been a member of ABVP since late 2012 but I started working ‘Actively’ in late 2013 around month of august to be exact. In three years I’ve never experienced event so massive yet so meaningful. I’ve never had a chance to think or process the vast scope and relevance of the Ideology that defines our activism, the mechanism that makes us so efficient, the standards that mould our activist & the motivation of our Movement, “A movement for Nation” and their I was between those thousand activists starstruck ready to churn and burn with the thought of future in head but of my nation at heart. I was wondering the campus day and night meeting great people who inspired me, who answered my questions to satisfaction and who taught me a new approach to see the world with better and a brighter standpoint! I’m not going to write a narration of conference, but focal point of my blog is going to be the values that were discussed during speech sessions, The opinions that were expressed in Parallel Sessions and a Ground Breaking “Vishwaroop Darshan’ that I had of ABVP as a whole! I intend to publish a series discussing all Speech Sessions, Parallel Sessions and the Collective conclusion session of each! Stay tuned! Being an activist of ABVP, The question I get asked most is, 'why am I a Student activist?'. Well I've had my run with it and now I'm writing to answer! The reason i was drawn towards Activism was simple. I used to romanticise about a perfect harmonious society, as I grew I began to understand real face of society, It's Mechanism and what's going wrong. As I was awaken to the harsh world beyond my oasis I was taken over by a wave, a cold wave of reality! I was disappointed and frustrated to see the corruption in Government, Profiteering in Education, Division in Society and Hypocrisy in Politics. At this time I was introduced with ABVP, the world's Largest Student Organisation, It taught me to see through to the governing Dynamics, The Solution of all problems we face, "Education" All inclusive yet conclusive Solution for all problems that our society faces today and also to Stand up and Raise my voice against the wrongs in the 'Education System' instead of whining about it! Yeah I was and Still am frustrated with the wrongs in society but ABVP taught me not to just Point out the wrongs but to correct them Democratically! ABVP also taught me not to plunge "Revolution" with means of 'Violence' when the system is faulty, but to Start 'Evolution' with positive and collective activism. ABVP taught me to include the thought of nation's betterment in my daily life. ABVP taught me to hold my head high and keep it straight in era where the wise are taunted and Hypocrites are Hailed! ABVP taught me to give back what i owe to society! ABVP taught me to Use my Skills (How few there may I Have) to help Others. ABVP taught me to Think, Act like and Be a True Student! ABVP taught me to Enrich my "Knowledge"! Enhance my "Character"! and Postulate "Unity"! ABVP also taught me not to just stand but stand United and Tall against all Wrongs in society in pursuit of Logic, Betterment, Unity, Brotherhood, Nation, Society and Truth! These are few among various reasons I became an Activist! Few weeks ago on 16th sup 2015 I attended a State Level Media Workshop of ABVP Maharashtra, at MMCC, Pune. I'm not going to discuss the sessions & the bullet points we learned about Media but the experience I had. As soon as it started I realised that how ignorant I was about nature and scope of Media. Student activists around the state were gathered and the first person to take rostrum was Veteran Journalist Shri.Bhau Torsekar.
As soon as he took to the microphone auditorium was on edge of their seats with pointy ears. He spoke slowly and assuring about the Reality behind news, How a biased Perception or a Preformed Mind can affect reporting of a news. In his words," It happens very often that the actual events that took place and the News that's published differ from each other. News is made after investigating the Event in question but very often the misinformation leads to the misinterpretation of event and the News resulting from it hammered again and again through media creates false advertising of actual events that took place, as a student activists it’s your duty to shed light on these media mishaps". He further added that," To understand media and to deal with it as a Student activist you should be a avid reader and protest against use of media for political purposes". As he walked away from microphone, auditorium was overwhelmed by the precise insights he'd given on media and bursts into applause. Key phrases- Bhau Torsekar's take on media ; ABVP ; Media Workshop ; Media & Student Activism |
